JB Case Scheduler has passed the Salesforce Security Review. Passing the review is required before an app can be listed on AppExchange. It is the milestone we have been working towards.
What the Security Review is
An app cannot be listed on AppExchange until it passes the Salesforce Security Review. Salesforce checks whether the app protects the customer data it touches and whether it follows the platform’s security practices. For anyone who installs apps from AppExchange, a passed review matters. It is the reason they can trust a package from a small vendor they have never met.
Where the app came from
JB Case Scheduler started with a need: a better way to follow up on cases in Service Cloud. Agents kept cases open in their own name, or set reminders, to remember a promised call back. We designed, built and tested the app. It lets an agent schedule a case and get it back at the right time, with the owner they chose.
What the review asked of us
Building the features was the smaller part of the work. Preparing for the review meant designing for security from the first version rather than fixing findings at the end. It meant thinking through where the app could be vulnerable and following the platform’s practices for protecting data. In practice the review came down to three things.
- Preparing the documentation that describes how the app works and what data it handles.
- Running the Salesforce security scanners over the package.
- Addressing the feedback from the review team.
Each step needed careful attention to detail, and the process tested how we work as a team. It also pushed us to work better.
For other ISVs (Independent Software Vendors, the partners who publish apps on AppExchange) our experience is this. The review is demanding, and it is achievable. It is also what makes the apps on AppExchange trustworthy for the admins who install them.
What we work on now
With the review passed, JB Case Scheduler can be listed on AppExchange. Our next work is adding features and processing the feedback we get from the people who use the app.
